“Can I use Lake for free?”

This is one of the most common questions that pops up everywhere - under our posts, in reviews, in support emails, and even from friends. And the answer is simple. YES.

The Lake Coloring app can be used for free, forever. And honestly, people are often surprised by just how much you can do without paying. In this article, I’ll walk you through exactly what’s included in the free version.

A bunch of free coloring pages

Lake offers many free illustrations that are updated regularly. You’ll often find free artwork in the different sections of the Home tab or within newly released books (💡 friendly tip: turn on push notifications to make sure you don’t miss any new coloring pages in Lake).

But the easiest way to see all available free pages is to go to the All Art tab and tap on the “Free” category. New free drawings are added and refreshed often, so there’s always something new to discover.

One free daily Coloring Journal entry

In addition to free pages, you also get one free daily entry in the Coloring Journal. Each day, you can:

    • select your mood and feelings,
    • receive a personalized daily mood palette and
    • choose one of the suggested illustrations to color.

For me, this is a favorite way to unwind after a long stressful day while also keeping a track of my mood.

More than 250 color shades

Color choice is a big part of the creative experience in Lake. It’s what makes coloring so much fun! Even in the free version, you’ll have access to a full color wheel with over 240 shades, as well as a hand-picked palette chosen by the artist for each coloring book.

Most core coloring tools and brushes

Free version of Lake includes most essential tools at no cost, so you can experiment and find your style. You can switch between:

  • Bucket tool for fast tap-to-fill coloring
  • Watercolor brush (my favorite tool 😍)
  • Spray tool
  • Acrylic brush

All of these tools mimic real brushes and therefore feel intuitive and relaxing. Some are perfect for coloring during a five-minute coffee break, while others are better choice for a more immersive coloring session.

Relaxing features included for free

The free version also gives you access to our signature calming features, including:

  • relaxing ASMR coloring sounds
  • open or closed lines mode for staying inside the lines or allowing more creative freedom
  • eye-dropper tool to easily access already used colors colors (💡 friendly tip: use long press as a shortcut)
  • opacity control for layering and blending

Personally, I switch between different features depending on my mood and situation. When I’m on the go and coloring on my iPhone, I tend to choose simpler drawings and use the bucket tool, always staying inside the lines. Evenings, on the other hand, are reserved for my iPad and Apple Pencil, for more detailed illustrations, lots of watercolor brush, and ASMR sounds always turned on.
