Ever wondered what a typical day looks like at a company that develops a coloring app? Join me for a behind-the-scenes look at a regular day in the office!

Tuesday, 8:27 a.m. Unlocking the office doors. Everything is still dark - as usual, I’m the first one in.

Tuesday, 8:28 a.m. First things first: coffee. Santa just brought us the most amazing, colorful cups, so I pick the one that matches my mood today.

My mood for today: fabulous!

Tuesday, 9:00 a.m. Time for a short daily meeting with the whole team: those in the office and those working remotely. After a little chit-chat - it’s good to know who won yesterday’s tennis match, who got new kitchen equipment, and who didn’t sleep well (extra coffee for those!) - we move on to business. We hear a report from the Support team - no bugs, hooray! 🎉 We also received a couple of lovely reviews, including this one:

Thank you for this app <3 It’s so comforting, and I appreciate that you use real art made by talented (human! 🙂) artists and make it possible to color even without any payment.

Then comes a short plan for the rest of the day. We’d like to release a new version next week, which means finalizing details: thorough testing and writing release notes to explain what’s new to users. By the way, did you know that Lake is translated into 10 languages? Every piece of content needs to be sent to our translators to make it sound natural in all the languages we support.

Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. Each Lake employee (currently 13 of us) works on their own tasks - sometimes in groups, sometimes solo. Slack messages are flying across different channels, mostly about our latest feature, Search, and new ideas already popping up. For me personally, that means answering emails, checking crucial metrics, and updating the App Store product page.

Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. A short call with the team working on the Search feature to discuss analytics. We go through what works, what doesn’t, and what needs improvement. The results show that people love searching for free drawings (we have quite a few!), but some would really like to color cars too. Noted - clearly, we need more cars 🚗

Tuesday, 11:36 a.m. Lunch-related Slack messages start coming in.

Tuesday, 12:30 p.m. Everyone in the office gathers in our small kitchenette to eat lunch. Most people bring their own food, so there’s a variety of worldwide cuisines, spiced with lots of laughter 🍝🌮🥗 And then back to our desks.

Tuesday, 1:30 p.m. An impromptu brainstorming session! Someone just had a brilliant idea that could allow anyone to color like a pro. I can’t share details yet, but we’re so excited that half the company drops what they’re doing and starts coloring immediately.

Tuesday, 2:00 p.m. Still coloring! This happens more often than we’d like to admit. Honestly, one downside of working on a coloring app is that every time you open it "just to check something", you fall into the flow and can’t stop. It’s addictive!

Working on new Lake features, our team can’t resist coloring in the app.

Tuesday, 2:30 p.m. An email comes in: Apple has featured us as App of the Day in most of Europe 👯‍♀️ We’re incredibly happy to be recognized as a relaxing coloring app with real benefits for users. Naturally, this calls for a little happy dance around the office.

Tuesday, 3:00 p.m. The office grows quiet. Everyone is deeply focused on their work.

Tuesday, 4:00 p.m.  Did I mention being quiet? Not for long! Our content creator needs help with a video for social media. Ever since the content team attended a conference about the digital marketing, they’ve been obsessed with featuring employees in videos. Guilty as charged! It’s outside our comfort zones, but chocolate cookies are involved.

Tuesday, 5:00 p.m. The office is empty, Slack is quiet. We can proudly say we walk the talk: self-care is at the core of our beliefs, and it shows in our work-life balance. Regular breaks, no overtime, quality over deadlines, and mental health above everything else 🧘🏻‍♀️

Working in a tech/lifestyle company means no day is ever the same, but hopefully this gives you a glimpse of what it’s like to work at a company that creates a relaxing coloring app.
